Quantitative Topics in Intermediate Microeconomics

Foreword

These notes serve as a reference for Econ 50Q, a Stanford honors microeconomics course for motivated undergraduate students. They supplement Chris Makler’s fantastic Econ 50 notes, which are a similar reference for Stanford’s first core intermediate microeconomics course. Each 50Q lesson extends one of the ten weeks of Econ 50 material. For instance, Econ 50’s introduction to preferences and utility functions is complemented by a theoretical exploration of when utility function existence is guaranteed for a given binary preference relation and set of alternatives. The interactive graphs throughout were created by Chris Makler, whose guidance was instrumental in creating these notes as a whole. Several of these lessons originated as lessons he originally wrote.

If you find any areas where the textbook could be improved, please send your (welcome!) feedback to Joshua Gross at jagross@stanford.edu.
